Hello Glenbrook,

We have a lot of info in today’s newsletter as there are many things happening in our community so be sure to scroll all the way down to catch it all.  I have a short message from Pastor Stephen who is our interim moderator, there is a letter and a survey that he would like everyone to read and take part in. Please note that I will be away next week so the “What’s New” newsletter will be sent next Saturday instead of Friday.

Thank you, Andrea

LETTER & SURVEY FROM PASTOR STEPHEN

Hi folks

I met with Session this week, and we spoke about what the coming months might look like. While a Search Committee hasn’t been formed yet, I’ll be around and working through the summer, collaborating with both Session and members of the Glenbrook congregation to get things rolling throughout July and August.

I’m also working with the worship team to support Sunday worship services during this time and will be joining you on July 6 to “Preach the Pulpit Vacant” following Rev. Ian’s retirement at the end of June. (Though I may bump into you at Church events at Glenbrook prior to this)

In the meantime, I’d love to hear from congregation members about what they value most about being part of Glenbrook, their hopes and dreams for future mission and ministry, and any ways they might be able to contribute during this season of transition.

I put together a short survey here that will collect responses until mid July: https://forms.office.com/r/hKv29Z9X4J

Finally, I encourage you to continue praying for your community—especially for those on Session who carry particular leadership responsibilities during this time.

Thanks and God Bless

-Rev Stephen Rothery

PWS&D MISSION AWARENESS

Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day

Date: Saturday, June 21, 2025

Time: 5:00 pm – 10:00pm

Location: Mississauga Celebration Square

Cost: FREE / All ages welcome

Join Heritage Mississauga at Celebration Square as we come together to honour National Indigenous Peoples Day—an evening dedicated to the stories, voices, and traditions of Indigenous Peoples.

In collaboration with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, this city-led event features a powerful lineup of Indigenous artists, including a headline performance by Tanya Tagaq—Polaris Prize and JUNO Award-winning Inuk throat singer known for her raw and unforgettable sound.

World Refugee Day

Our PWS&D Champion Ellys MacKenzie has been keeping us updated regarding World Refugee Day.  No one chooses to be a refugee. Refugees and internally displaced people are forced to flee their homes out of fear for their lives, safety and freedom. On June 21, World Refugee Day, we honour the strength,

courage and resilience of those who have been uprooted by conflict, persecution and disaster. We are also reminded that in 2025, an estimated 139.3 million people around the world will still be forcibly displaced or stateless.

Advocate for Afghan Refugees

The Government of Pakistan is accelerating its drive to expel undocumented Afghans, as well as those who have temporary permission to stay. Between 700 and 800 families are being deported daily. These deportations pose devastating risks—particularly for women and girls—who face heightened threats of violence, persecution, and loss of access to basic rights upon return. These actions violate international protection principles and erode decades of humanitarian efforts to safeguard vulnerable populations.

Join us in calling on the Government of Canada to urge the Government of Pakistan to:

Immediately halt the deportations of Afghan refugees

Uphold the rights to protection, safety and dignity for all displaced individuals

Commit to durable, rights-based solutions for those fleeing conflict and oppression

Your voice and solidarity are crucial at this moment.
