Today marked the start of our build. After some last minute changes we are pleased to announce a new building project. The medical clinic which we were originally planning to build is now a project being taken on by the Nicaraguan Heath Department. The Nicaragua heath department will be able to provide a much more comprehensive clinic than we would have been able to build. After some deliberation it has been decided we will now be helping a church in Niquinohomo (Nikki-nomo). The congregation led by Pastor Pablo has been slowly raising money by collection and selling of goods. They have been slowly gathering materials to build a church for their congregation of 25 adults and 50 children. Here in Nicaragua churches grow with an ” if you build it they will come” policy.

The church is located on a narrow lot in a small town called Nicquinohomo (pronounced Niki-nomo). Pastor Pablo welcomed us warmly and jumped right into helping us move sand up the staircase out front and mixing the cement to start the foundation. Because the plans were changed we get to participate in the laying of the foundation, this is something normally completed ahead of a PAN’s team arrival. We were busy today making rebar and mixing cement for the footings.

After lunch Pastor Pablo took us to his home. We met his wife, Maribel and his daughter Ana. We will be leading some children’s programming (for 50 children ages 4-12) there later this week.

The rain started and with much of the foundation laid we called it an early night. We returned home in the rain to some quiet time before dinner. The cook at the PAN compound is amazing, her name is Veronica. Veronica has prepared some amazing meals for us, always using fresh ingredients grown on the compound.
