Costly Extravagance

“Mary took a pound of costly perfume made of pure nard, anointed Jesus’ feet, and wiped them with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.”

 Reflection for the Week

Mary’s supreme devotion to Jesus by anointing his feet with a costly perfume and wiping his feet with her hair was deemed an unnecessary extravagance by Judas and with good reason. Yet Jesus welcomes Mary’s devotion as a beautiful offering, because he anticipates his own costly sacrifice and death…for her, for Judas and for all. Sometimes such love can not be measured or explained…just received.
