How is everyone doing?  I will keep this message short as I saw a wonderful Devotional that I’d like to include in this week’s email. I find having a thankful heart can sometimes be so difficult when you lose sense of the most important things in life. Watching Hurricane Melissa cause so much destruction this week really makes you realize it’s the little things in life that make it so special and important.

Don’t you think?

A reminder that Rev. Dr. Victor Shepherd will be speaking at Glenbrook on Sunday Nov 9th, 16th and 23rd.

Have a great week,

Trick or Treat and GO Jays GO!!!

DEVOTIONAL

A Thankful Heart

Look around you and take notice of all that you observe. What are you truly thankful for? I give thanks to the Lord for the air that we breathe, the sun, the stars that shine in the night sky, the trees, flowers, plants, shrubs, especially for the richness of the earth and soil, for without that richness and the mineral content of the soil, we would not have the abundant crops growing that help sustain us every single day. I am so thankful for the animals that in turn feed us. I am thankful as well for the oceans, rivers, lakes, streams and other bodies of water which give us the most important fluid, water, to keep us alive, healthy and clean. I am thankful for my job, for my family, for my children, for education, for health, for the people that I have known all my life, for the friends that I have met along the way and for the ones who lift me up in prayer. I am even thankful for the problems that come up, as they help to strengthen my relationship with my heavenly Father. I am most thankful for Jesus Christ, for He died on the cross for me. I am thankful for salvation and the promise of an eternal life in heaven with Him. "Give thanks with a grateful heart."

 GLENBROOK ANNOUNCEMENTS

JOIN US FOR LUNCH AND CONGREGATIONAL PASTOR SEARCH MEETING ON NOVEMBER 9TH

You are invited…

What? Congregational Lunch Meeting

Who? All Glenbrook Members and Adherents

Why? For the Search Committee to receive input from the congregation in the search process

When? Following the service on November 9th from 11:30 to 1 pm

More Information…

As you know by now, Session has appointed a Pastoral Search Committee.  The members include: Conrad Fujimoto, Grace Thomas, Justice Agyemang, Margaret Leaver Power, Nancy Alexander, Samantha De Jourden and Ward Pipher.  We are fortunate to have Pastor Stephen Rothery, our interim moderator, lead the Search Committee in congregational analysis and setting goals for the future. This undertaking occurs early in the search process, and its purpose is to help identify the roles and expectations of both minister and congregation. Congregational involvement early in this process is essential.  While self-analysis can be challenging for a congregation, it can help the congregation to understand itself clearly and thus provide a more accurate basis for assessing the suitability of a particular candidate for that congregation.

We would like to begin this process of self-analysis with our congregation on Sunday, November 9th by inviting our members and adherents to stay for a light lunch and discussion immediately following the morning service. The meeting format is designed to give everyone an opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas but also to respect those who would rather share their perspective more privately.  We will make this option available to folks following the meeting.

When we have completed this step, we will begin work on our next step…the Congregational Profile Form. When completed, the profile will provide general information about the congregation and community, the goals and objectives of the congregation, the pastoral skills it needs, and a position description for the minister.

Please join us on November 9th for this important meeting.  We will conclude the session at 1pm sharp.  We are also requesting cookies and squares for dessert. A sign-up sheet is located on the table in the foyer.

RAW CARROT SOUP PICK UP THIS SUNDAY

To all those who ordered soup, it is here at church and will be available for pick up after the service. If payments still need to be made please bring cash. The orange table will be hosted by Ann Heeds and Nancy Law to retrieve your orders. Thanks again for the support, Geraldine and Cynthia picked up 69 packages of soup for which The Raw Carrot receives all funds.

Saturday saw dedicated gardeners out in the Community Garden closing up plots for the winter. This is a special little ministry as the growers often donate produce to Eden Food for Change and of course, share the fruits of their labours amongst themselves. Great way to socialize, make new friends, save some grocery money and enjoy God's creation. A thank you goes out to Chris Starkey - garden organizer and to Ingrid Brown as she is the face the seasonal plot owners see with any concerns. I know she also benefits from the gifts of fresh produce throughout the summer.

As a little thank you to the people involved Glenbrook offered hot drinks, donuts and muffins during a break from the work outside.

Thanks, Cynthia
