Hello Glenbrook!

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are having a wonderful week.  I want to remind you about some important things coming up and highlight them here incase you miss them below.  Tomorrow is the Senior Online Fraud Awareness Session at 2:00 PM. Online fraud is an unfortunate reality, but this session will equip you with practical ways to protect yourself.  We also invite anyone interested in our early 2027 mission trips to join Cynthia for a brief meeting right after this Sunday's service. Scroll down to read more about both opportunities!

Lastly, we have exciting updates regarding our Pastoral Search and the upcoming meet-and-greet. Please see all the details below.

I hope you have an excellent weekend, until next Friday, take care.

PASTORAL SEARCH UPDATE

Meet Rev. Jinsil Park

By now most of you are aware that Session has approved the recommendation from the Search Committee to invite Rev. Jinsil Park to preach for the call at Glenbrook.

Rev. Park was ordained in 2021. He holds a Master of Divinity from Briercrest Seminary and a Diploma in Ministry from The Presbyterian College, Montreal. Before ordination, he served as a lay missionary with Knox Presbyterian Church in Whitewood, Saskatchewan from 2015 to 2018 and served in a range of wider church settings dating back to 2011.

The Search Committee sees him as a man of God with a deep love of God and a deep love of people, whose ministry is rooted in the Word and whose warm, approachable manner connects naturally with people of all ages and backgrounds. Key Dates and Next-Steps

  • Saturday, June 13: Meet and greet opportunities with Rev. Park here at Glenbrook from 2pm to 5pm.  At approximately 3:15, we will have a brief “get to know you” Q&A with Rev. Park. Light refreshments will be provided for the event.

  • Sunday, June 14: Rev. Park will lead worship and preach for the call.

  • Sunday, June 14, immediately following worship: A congregational meeting will be held to vote on whether to call Rev. Jinsil Park to be the minister at Glenbrook.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to speak with members of Session or the Search Committee, or Pastor Stephen Rothery at pastorsteve@knoxmilton.com. In the meantime, please keep the congregation and this process in your prayers.

NEW MEMBERS

If you are still interested in becoming a member at Glenbrook there will be a New Members service on June 7.  Please contact the office and Pastor Steve will be in touch with you.

FRAUD AWARENESS INFORMATION SESSION

We all know there are scams and fraud out there and that some of it is targeted at seniors. Glenbrook will host an information session called “Senior Online Fraud Awareness” on Saturday, May 30 at 2:00pm. Varsha Vaishali is the speaker. She is the founder and president of an organization called Cyber Harassment Support. There is a sign up sheet for this session on the front table.

SHELTER MISSION TRIP

Following the service this Sunday, May 31st, Cynthia will host a very short meeting for anyone interested in going on a Shelter Mission Trip in January or February 2027. Glenbrook travelers will join a team from the Wingham Workers on 1 of the 3 weeks of their planned trips.

All major organizing will be taken care of, by Brenda Stein, whom we met when she and Ed visited us. The Mission participants will need to do some fundraising, but funds do exist already towards such an endeavour. Even if you're slightly interested, please join us after service this Sunday!

OPEN DOOR LUNCH THIS THURSDAY

The Open Door lunch is June 4th,  there will be a sign up sheet in the lobby. We need 3 volunteers to serve and people to make cold salads, and loaves of sandwiches.

Thank you in advance.

A MUSICAL GATHERING

Who: The Bag of Ham Band & In the Vineyard

When: Saturday, June 6th 7-9pm

Where: Glenbrook Sanctuary – There will be smores and snacks and drinks at intermission

Price to attend: NONE

*You are encouraged to give a chosen donation marked ‘Campership’

You can make your offering today, or on the night of the concert in cash, or cheques made out to Glenbrook with a memo to campership or use your phone for the QR Code for a link to cairn-family-of-camps. ALL DONATIONS OVER $20 WILL BE RECEIPTED.

The actual cost for 1 child aged 7 – 15 years old to attend a week of camp is $935. The camps employ a 3-tiered payment system that allows for a payment for a child to be up to $100 less and the campership fund subsidizes the cost. Let’s see how many children we can help attend camp this summer. Invite a friend and we will see you at the concert!

SPRING SHOW

Please join us on June 6th at 2:00 pm at Port Nelson United Church in Burlington.  Chris Starkey and his chorus, Harbourtown Sound will be singing a variety of music from artists like Billy Joel, The Monkees, and Leonard Cohen.  His quartet, The Paris Accord will be singing and there will be a special performance by retired champions Chameleon.

If you would like to attend this wonderful event, please contact Chris for tickets. We can also help arrange carpooling from Glenbrook.

MUFFINS FOR MISSIONS

June 7th is Muffins for Mission Sunday. All proceeds will go to “Change Her World”. They are dedicated to educating and empowering vulnerable girls and women, primarily in Northern Malawi.
