Hello Glenbrook!

Hello once again. As always, I hope everyone is doing well, enjoying this weather and soaking up some much deserved sunshine. I was looking at a list of events in Toronto for the upcoming season and every single weekend was jam packed with activities, road closures, FIFA announcements and street festivals-it was almost dizzying.  Fortunately, we have our own fabulous event right here at Glenbrook tomorrow! The Bag of Ham is back with In the Vineyard, featuring your favourite tunes and snacks. You can find all the details below. Also, since it has been a while, I’ve included a devotional for you.  Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy.

See you soon!

The Rudder

You have no idea how much work goes into preparing for the sailing season. Hours and hours are spent on the hard stuff – scraping and sanding and smoothing and then painting and polishing.

Making the boat look good is fine and it will probably slip through the water a little faster for all your hard work, but don't forget the obvious. The course depends on the rudder. It isn't very big and doesn't require a lot of maintenance, but without it there is no course and no direction and the craft is at the mercy of wind and tide.

The leadership of the church is a little like the rudder of my sailboat. The leadership rarely needs attention unless it is missing, and usually it does a fine job of getting where it is going, but even leadership needs maintenance, and needs the gentle hand of the pilot for direction. Pray for the leadership of your community of faith, asking for its renewal and for its continued health.

‍‍A MUSICAL GATHERING

Who: The Bag of Ham Band & In the Vineyard

When: Saturday June 6th 7-9pm

Where: Glenbrook Sanctuary – There will be smores and snacks and drinks at intermission

Price to attend: NONE

*You are encouraged to give a chosen donation marked ‘Campership’

You can make your offering today, or on the night of the concert in cash, or cheques made out to Glenbrook with a memo to campership or use your phone for the QR Code for a link to cairn-family-of-camps. ALL DONATIONS OVER $20 WILL BE RECEIPTED.

The actual cost for 1 child aged 7 – 15 years old to attend a week of camp is $935. The camps employ a 3-tiered payment system that allows for a payment for a child to be up to $100 less and the campership fund subsidizes the cost. Let’s see how many children we can help attend camp this summer. Invite a friend and we will see you at the concert!

SPRING SHOW

Please join us on June 6th at 2:00 pm at Port Nelson United Church in Burlington.  Chris Starkey and his chorus, Harbourtown Sound will be singing a variety of music from artists like Billy Joel, The Monkees, and Leonard Cohen.  His quartet, The Paris Accord will be singing and there will be a special performance by retired champions Chameleon!

If you would like to attend this wonderful event, please contact Chris for tickets. We can also help arrange carpooling from Glenbrook.

MUFFINS FOR MISSIONS

June 7th is Muffins for Mission Sunday. All proceeds will go to “Change Her World”. They are dedicated to educating and empowering vulnerable girls and women primarily in Northern Malawi. They address poverty through education, healthcare and economic sustainability initiatives. There is a sign-up sheet for bakers on the front table.

LADIES' LUNCH

Ladies' Lunch on Tuesday, June 23 at 12 noon. A decision as to where we should go: Montana's on Dundas by Canadian Tire or Chuck's Roadhouse in Westdale Mall. Let me know your thoughts on the sign-up sheet and I will confirm reservations.

Thank you!

Bonnie
